  • Craftgate: Almost half of consumers wait until September to do their back-to-school shopping

Craftgate: Almost half of consumers wait until September to do their back-to-school shopping

    • Approximately 47.9% of Spanish families have already used interest-free installment payments during the 2025 back-to-school season.

    • In e-commerce, sectors such as fashion account for between 6% and 9% of annual turnover in September.

    • During seasonal sales peaks, payment orchestration—technology powered by Craftgate—can increase transaction success rates by up to 20% and reduce operating costs by between 15% and 30% per transaction.

With the arrival of September, e-commerce businesses kick off one of the most active shopping seasons of the year. The start of the school year and the anticipation of strong year-end consumption periods make September a month on the rise. According to a study by Klarna, the majority of consumers (47.4%) wait until September to make their back-to-school purchases. This has a direct impact on retailers, boosting sales by 4% compared to August, and in sectors such as online fashion which, according to Wardem, accounts for between 6% and 9% of annual turnover in September.

In addition to these seasonal marketing strategies, marked changes in consumer behavior continue to facilitate quick purchases while increasing online traffic and sales volumes. In fact, for back-to-school purchases alone, OCU indicates that online sales will grow 35% compared to last year. These forecasts consolidate the leadership of the online channel, which already accounts for 55% of purchases this season.

“The increase in traffic and the need to maximize revenue is not simply an opportunity—it also entails a higher risk of payment failures, cart abandonment, and security threats for e-commerce. These problems can cause significant revenue losses and damage a brand’s reputation,” emphasizes Jorge Sorial, Country Manager of Craftgate in Spain. “Payment orchestration addresses these problems head-on by providing a robust, flexible, and secure infrastructure that can intelligently route transactions, retry failed payments, and offer customers a wide range of payment options.”

As analyzed by Craftgate, a leading payment orchestration platform, merchants unprepared for seasonal peaks can see key metrics drop, such as conversion rates by up to 10% due to overload or friction in payments, and cart abandonment rates increase between 15% and 30% if the system cannot support demand. Once again, reducing shopping cart abandonment rates—already exceeding 70%—stands out as one of the main needs of merchants. Among the reasons behind this figure, recent studies show that 85% of online shoppers abandon their cart when they do not see their preferred payment method at checkout. Specifically, around 67% of Spanish users would switch merchants in order to access BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later) solutions.

Thus, the availability of payment alternatives makes the difference in a context where the rise of digital tools and economic needs continue to drive adoption of methods such as BNPL: during the 2025 back-to-school season, according to Klarna, approximately 47.9% of Spanish families have already used interest-free installment payments, while 22.9% plan to try it for the first time in the 2025/2026 school year.

“Thanks to payment orchestration technology, companies can increase their conversion rates by up to 20%, dynamically routing transactions according to performance, geographic location, costs, and other variables. In addition, it reduces operating costs by between 15% and 30% per transaction and ensures greater resilience by minimizing failures in payment gateways and local networks, thus guaranteeing an uninterrupted shopping experience—a crucial factor during sales campaigns that trigger sudden spikes in traffic,” concludes Craftgate’s Country Manager in Spain.

  • New Range of BRALO PT Pneumatic Riveters

New Range of BRALO PT Pneumatic Riveters

New Range of BRALO PT Pneumatic Riveters
Designed for industry, built to last.

BRALO launches its new line of pneumatic riveters, conceived to meet the demands of the most demanding industrial environments. This new generation combines structural robustness, high operational performance, and a design focused on durability and ease of maintenance.

From the very beginning of development, the objective was clear: optimize the mechanical design while reducing the number of components to a minimum, without compromising quality or strength. To achieve this, only high-grade materials and precision machining processes have been used, eliminating low-performance parts and unnecessary connections. The result is a tool with outstanding mechanical reliability, low maintenance, and stable long-term performance, minimizing the risk of air or oil leaks.

    Optimized structural design
The PT range is the only one on the market with a body entirely made of forged aluminum, ensuring superior strength and significant weight reduction. This combination improves ergonomics without compromising structural integrity—an essential factor in intensive-use environments.

The riveting system has been sized with a wide safety margin, allowing the tool to operate consistently below its maximum capacity, even in demanding applications or with high-strength rivets. This not only extends the service life of the components but also allows operation at lower air pressures, thus reducing energy consumption.

    Fast cycle, no spring wear
The piston recovery mechanism is based on the redistribution of compressed air, avoiding the use of springs that would eventually require replacement. This system reduces the number of wear-prone parts and provides greater operating speed, improving productivity in repetitive processes.

Designed for operators and in-plant maintenance
Its ergonomic design allows use by both right- and left-handed operators. In addition, the stem collector with adjustable air outlet prevents interference and improves user experience during long work shifts.

The PT range has been developed for real industrial environments: adverse conditions, continuous work, and minimal intervention needs. These are tools designed both for professionals who prioritize care and performance of their equipment and for environments where mechanical strength is the first requirement.

Compatible with rivets, collar studs, rivet nuts, and rivet studs, this range offers wide versatility of use thanks to its modular system of interchangeable nozzles that covers multiple applications in production lines.

  • Craftgate integrates Bizum into its range of payment methods

Craftgate integrates Bizum into its range of payment methods

Bizum has established itself as the most popular instant mobile payment solution in the Spanish market, with 29 million users and a penetration rate of up to 91% in Spain.

Madrid, April 22, 2025. Craftgate, the fintech specialized in payment orchestration, has completed the integration of Bizum as part of its range of payment methods in Spain. Craftgate’s offering allows businesses and merchants to easily connect Bizum and other payment methods, improve payment acceptance rates, save on fees, boost sales, and centralize all payments on a single platform — all through a secure process that ensures data protection.

Craftgate’s inclusion of Bizum responds to a growing trend in the sector, as over 85% of companies plan to incorporate new payment methods within the next three years, according to the company’s own data. This evolution reflects the need to adapt to consumer demands for faster, safer, and more convenient payment options.

This integration is made possible thanks to Craftgate’s payment orchestration technology, which allows businesses to manage all their online payment processes — both domestic and international — from a single application. “Facilitating access to the most popular alternative payment method in the national market was an absolute priority for Craftgate in our goal to optimize payment processes and offer companies the flexibility needed to quickly adapt to changing market demands, while reducing operational costs and enhancing the customer experience,” says Jorge Sorial, Craftgate’s Country Manager for Spain.

Bizum consolidates its position as the most popular instant mobile payment solution in the Spanish market.

With 29 million active users and a 91% penetration rate in Spain, Bizum has firmly established itself as the undisputed leader in instant mobile payments. The platform expects to reach 30 million users by the end of 2025. Moreover, Bizum is the second most used payment method in Spanish e-commerce, with more than 86,000 online merchants accepting it.

The high frequency of use among consumers reflects their trust in Bizum, which in 2024 processed over 123 million purchases, amounting to transfers worth more than €6.7 billion.

“At Bizum, our priority is to offer our more than 29 million users the ability to pay for their purchases conveniently, quickly, and securely at an increasing number of merchants and services. Without a doubt, the availability of Bizum on new platforms and merchants will open new possibilities for our Bizumers and help us become the preferred payment method in our country. We are confident that this milestone will continue to drive our growth and benefit Craftgate’s customers, who will be able to offer more alternatives for people to choose how they prefer to pay,”

says Alicia Fernández, Bizum’s Head of Business Development.

In this regard, Spain is leading the adoption of instant payments in Europe, with 6% of consumers using them for their online purchases, according to the European Central Bank’s SPACE 2024 survey, slightly above the eurozone average (5%). Among the main reasons for this preference are ease of use (17%), security (16%), and greater privacy (15%) — all features that Bizum and Craftgate guarantee through their payment orchestration platform.

Furthermore, in a context where the expansion of cross-border instant payments is emerging as one of the main PayTech trends, as highlighted by Craftgate in its report “FinTech Trends 2025,” Bizum has just announced a decisive step towards internationalization by enabling instant cross-border transfers in countries such as Italy, Portugal, and Andorra.

“The demand for faster and more affordable cross-border transactions will drive the expansion of global instant payment networks. Payment providers will collaborate with central banks to establish interoperable systems that facilitate real-time international payments, significantly reducing transfer costs for businesses and individuals. This expansion will allow for deeper integration of international markets, creating a more agile and efficient global payment environment,”

analyzes Sorial in the company’s report.

  • Fazla’ya, Ticari İşler Direktörü Mustafa Ergene ile gerçekleştirdiğimiz özel röportajla hoş geldiniz diyoruz!

Fazla’ya, Ticari İşler Direktörü Mustafa Ergene ile gerçekleştirdiğimiz özel röportajla hoş geldiniz diyoruz!

Our new member Fazla is a company founded in 2017 in Turkey with the goal of reducing food waste through innovative technological solutions. Since then, it has evolved into a comprehensive waste management platform that offers services across multiple sectors, including food, non-food products, and industrial by-products.

With operations in both Turkey and Spain, Fazla connects companies with sustainable solutions through a circular economy approach. Its proprietary technology enables the management of donations, surplus sales, animal feed processes, and recycling from a single platform, with full traceability and real-time environmental impact metrics.

In Spain, Fazla collaborates with leading companies such as Makro España, coordinating daily donations to food banks in numerous cities across all regions of the country. Its local team, based in Madrid, works closely with the ecosystem to scale models that generate economic, social, and environmental value.

To date, Fazla has prevented more than 185,000 tons of waste and over 290,000 tons of CO₂ emissions, helping more than 1.75 million people in need.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Mustafa Ergene, Chief Commercial Officer of Fazla, to learn firsthand how this innovative company is revolutionizing waste management with technology, social impact, and a global vision. In this interview, he shares the inspiration behind Fazla, their most impactful solutions, and how they are expanding their circular economy model from Turkey to Spain.

Interview with Mustafa Ergene, Chief Commercial Officer of Fazla

    Fazla, Mustafa Ergene

Can you tell us about the inspiration and vision behind Fazla? What motivated you to start the company, and how has it evolved since its inception?

Fazla was founded in 2017 in Turkey with a vision to combat one of the most pressing global challenges: food waste. Inspired by the belief that waste is not just an environmental issue but also a social and economic one, we have set out to build a holistic solution. What started as a food donation initiative evolved into a comprehensive waste management platform that now covers food and non-food products including textile, packaging materials and chemical goods. Our journey has been shaped by a commitment to create scalable, tech-driven solutions that contribute positively to society and the planet. Today, Fazla operates both in Turkey and Spain, where we continue to adapt to the market and grow.

What are some of the signature services or solutions Fazla offers? How do these differentiate you from other companies in the sector?

Fazla offers a 360-degree waste management solution. Our core services include donation management, resale of surplus products, animal feed processes, and recycling, all coordinated through our one single technology platform. We also developed our own IoT-powered smart scale system that helps hotels and restaurants monitor and reduce kitchen waste. What truly differentiates Fazla is our ability to integrate these services into one seamless platform, providing real-time reporting, environmental impact metrics, and full traceability. This end-to-end approach, combined with our strong operational capabilities and social impact focus, makes us unique in the sector globally. Last but not least, we also offer tailor-made consultancy and training to our partners with our 8 years waste management experience.

As a company committed to social entrepreneurship, how would you describe your philosophy when it comes to managing waste sustainably?

At Fazla, we see waste not as a burden to worry about but as an opportunity to create value for businesses, society, and the environment. Our philosophy revolves around the hierarchy of waste management—preventing waste generation first, then redirecting usable products to people in need, and finally, recycling or repurposing remaining materials. We believe that sustainability must go hand-in-hand with social benefit, which is why we design every solution with a “win-win” mindset: reducing costs and environmental impact for businesses while generating social good.

Fazla is recognised for creating fair and sustainable solutions. Can you share a specific challenge you’ve encountered in waste management and how your team overcame it?

One of the recurring challenges is managing surplus food that has sometimes an extremely short shelf life. For example, coordinating donations of perishable products such as fresh fruit and vegetables or bakery items can be complex due to timing and logistics. In Spain, we tackled this by strengthening our partnerships with local charities and social entities and by utilizing our real-time coordination platform to ensure swift collection and redistribution. This has allowed us to significantly reduce waste in our partners while supporting communities in need with quality food donations.

Could you share a bit about your operations in Spain?

Spain is a strategic market for Fazla, and since launching operations here in 2023, we have built a strong team based in Madrid, composed of professionals with expertise in new business development, operations, with a strong dedication on impact generation.

We are proud to already be working with key partners such as Makro España, where we manage daily food donations from their stores to food banks and social entities across entire Spain. We also collaborate with leading food and textile producers to maximize the social and environmental value of surplus products. In parallel, we are actively using other service lines, such as the resale of surplus to alternative sales channels and the deployment of our smart scale technology in the hospitality sector. Our operations in Spain are steadily expanding, and we are committed to building a robust ecosystem.

Fazla’s mission involves serving as a model for Turkish youth in social entrepreneurship. What initiatives or programs do you have in place to inspire and involve young people?

Fazla is the first Turkish start-up backed-up with United Nations Development Program, UNDP. This helped us to capture attention and create awareness about what we are aiming to do. Following UNDP, Fazla achieved to be recognized by several international programs like UN Food Systems, Meaningful Business, Future Unicorn, UN Accelerator 2030, MIT Solve and many more. These all help inspire more young people. We take great pride in inspiring the next generation of impact oriented entrepreneurs. Fazla actively collaborates with universities and entrepreneurship programs in Turkey and abroad, offering mentorship, internships, and workshops focused on sustainable business practices and innovation.

Given the ongoing global challenges regarding waste and sustainability, how do you foresee Fazla contributing to transformational change in the coming years, both locally and internationally?

Fazla’s ambition is to be a global reference point in waste management and circular economy practices. In the years ahead, we plan to further scale our platform across Europe and other new markets, continuously enhancing our tech capabilities, such as AI-driven waste analytics and predictive tools. Locally, in Spain and Turkey, we will continue strengthening partnerships to maximize environmental and social impact. We aim to lead by example, showing how companies can integrate circular economy principles while generating business value and supporting social needs.

Finally, for businesses and individuals interested in collaborating with Fazla, what opportunities do you see for partnership or involvement within the Chamber of Commerce community?

The Turkish-Spanish Chamber of Commerce is an excellent platform to foster new collaborations. We are open to partnering with businesses in food, retail, hospitality sectors that share our commitment to sustainability. Whether it’s through joint projects, sharing best practices, or co-developing innovative solutions, we believe that collaboration within the Chamber can accelerate our collective efforts in waste reduction and circular economy initiatives. We are also keen to contribute to thought leadership events, networking activities, and cross-border projects that align with our mission.
