Bizum has established itself as the most popular instant mobile payment solution in the Spanish market, with 29 million users and a penetration rate of up to 91% in Spain.

Madrid, April 22, 2025. Craftgate, the fintech specialized in payment orchestration, has completed the integration of Bizum as part of its range of payment methods in Spain. Craftgate’s offering allows businesses and merchants to easily connect Bizum and other payment methods, improve payment acceptance rates, save on fees, boost sales, and centralize all payments on a single platform — all through a secure process that ensures data protection.

Craftgate’s inclusion of Bizum responds to a growing trend in the sector, as over 85% of companies plan to incorporate new payment methods within the next three years, according to the company’s own data. This evolution reflects the need to adapt to consumer demands for faster, safer, and more convenient payment options.

This integration is made possible thanks to Craftgate’s payment orchestration technology, which allows businesses to manage all their online payment processes — both domestic and international — from a single application. “Facilitating access to the most popular alternative payment method in the national market was an absolute priority for Craftgate in our goal to optimize payment processes and offer companies the flexibility needed to quickly adapt to changing market demands, while reducing operational costs and enhancing the customer experience,” says Jorge Sorial, Craftgate’s Country Manager for Spain.

Bizum consolidates its position as the most popular instant mobile payment solution in the Spanish market.

With 29 million active users and a 91% penetration rate in Spain, Bizum has firmly established itself as the undisputed leader in instant mobile payments. The platform expects to reach 30 million users by the end of 2025. Moreover, Bizum is the second most used payment method in Spanish e-commerce, with more than 86,000 online merchants accepting it.

The high frequency of use among consumers reflects their trust in Bizum, which in 2024 processed over 123 million purchases, amounting to transfers worth more than €6.7 billion.

“At Bizum, our priority is to offer our more than 29 million users the ability to pay for their purchases conveniently, quickly, and securely at an increasing number of merchants and services. Without a doubt, the availability of Bizum on new platforms and merchants will open new possibilities for our Bizumers and help us become the preferred payment method in our country. We are confident that this milestone will continue to drive our growth and benefit Craftgate’s customers, who will be able to offer more alternatives for people to choose how they prefer to pay,”

says Alicia Fernández, Bizum’s Head of Business Development.

In this regard, Spain is leading the adoption of instant payments in Europe, with 6% of consumers using them for their online purchases, according to the European Central Bank’s SPACE 2024 survey, slightly above the eurozone average (5%). Among the main reasons for this preference are ease of use (17%), security (16%), and greater privacy (15%) — all features that Bizum and Craftgate guarantee through their payment orchestration platform.

Furthermore, in a context where the expansion of cross-border instant payments is emerging as one of the main PayTech trends, as highlighted by Craftgate in its report “FinTech Trends 2025,” Bizum has just announced a decisive step towards internationalization by enabling instant cross-border transfers in countries such as Italy, Portugal, and Andorra.

“The demand for faster and more affordable cross-border transactions will drive the expansion of global instant payment networks. Payment providers will collaborate with central banks to establish interoperable systems that facilitate real-time international payments, significantly reducing transfer costs for businesses and individuals. This expansion will allow for deeper integration of international markets, creating a more agile and efficient global payment environment,”

analyzes Sorial in the company’s report.
